a journey of 2,652 miles
THE PACIFIC CREST TRAIL 2018
starts with a single step.
Miles 1728.1 to 1750.4. Forest camp to Klum Landing Camp
As usual we wake up earlier than everyone else and are back on trail shortly after 6am. Both Flamin‘ Hot and BigBro usually eat their breakfast in camp and will still be awhile. We start hiking and stop for breakfast in a sunny spot after around 2 miles where we are soon joined by the others.
We are so happy that the weather is nice and Dario is feeling much better than yesterday. I am still feeling sentimental though, not exactly sure I belong here anymore. I exchange voice messages with my sister but actually feel like crying. I might be a little homesick. But the blue sky does help. I‘ll focus on that now and feel very appreciative of the lack of smoke in the air. The other two leave before us and while we keep seeing Flamin‘ Hot every other hour we lose track of BigBro. He is incredibly fast!
The plan is to reach an off-trail campsite tonight with free hot showers and picnic tables. This might sound funny but to thruhikers picnic tables are quite an attraction! To be able to sit down at a table for our couscous or ramen dinners is just such a treat!
It stays nice all day, the weather actually already has an autumnal feeling to it and is great for hiking. My mood has greatly approved by midday. If it stays smokefree this whole hiking thing is actually almost becoming enjoyable again. It might be worth to try it a little longer. ;-)
We arrive at the lake where the Klum Landing camp is situated around sunset. BigBro has already set up his tent, and Sasquatch and Trooper are also there, still cowboy camping even though the night time temperature has dropped significantly in the last couple days. And there are showers there! And the hot water feels amazing!
Flamin‘ Hot hasn‘t shown up though, we hope he‘s okay. We then enjoy our pasta dinner in the tent (it‘s too cold to eat it outside at the picnic table) and are then soon off to bed.
