Miles 0. Zeroday in Mammoth Lakes

It was the first night in a real bed again so of course we both slept really badly and don‘t feel that refreshed in the morning. But oh well, at least there is no physical activity involved in today‘s schedule, so we can just have another nap later on. We decide to go for breakfast first and then do our resupply at Von‘s. It should be an easy one this time - we only need food for 2.5 days. Once we arrive in Tuolumne Meadows we will leave the trail and somehow get to San Francisco from where we will fly home on July 19.

Back to breakfast. We look at the best places on Tripadvisor and opt for „The Good Life Cafe“. Transportation in Mammoth is so easy. There are free trolleys all over town and they pass every 10 minutes and so it only takes a couple of minutes for us to reach our chosen breakfast location. We both order Eggs Benedict, ham version for Dario, spinach version for me. Extra avocado as always. Freshly squeezed orange juice and cappuccino. This is food heaven!

Meanwhile Big Bro has got in touch, they will all be coming into town today, and stay in the same guesthouse. We decide to go out to dinner together tonight.

After we are done with breakfast we walk over to Von‘s (so technically, not quite a zero-mile day!) and get our usual food. A few more fresh items because well, 2.5 days only. We are done pretty quickly and then hurry back to the guesthouse to reach our loved ones on the phone. Always good to catch up. :)

Now it‘s nap time but we are not that tired anymore and organize our packs instead. Yay, the food fits the bear canisters! But they are pretty full considering....

We later spend some time blogging until the others are ready to go out for dinner. We walk down to the local brewing company, what a great place in this lovely town! They brew different kinds of beer, the guys are very happy! There is a long line to order the food, but the food is very worth the wait. My Naan chicken tacos are delicious and Dario‘s Asado fries are fast gone. Well we haven‘t eaten since breakfast after all!

We then play some häckisäck game - the Swiss against the Germans. We lose. I blame the cider that I‘ve been drinking. But what a fun night with these guys! I will miss them because if we continue the PCT from Tuolumne Meadows, where we get off next weekend, we will most likely not see them again. But we are still not sure where we are gonna get back on trail after our holidays in Europe. We‘ll see.

Even though it would only take us 15 minutes to walk back up to the guesthouse we decide to take the trolley which will first drive through the whole town before reaching our stop. Thruhikers. Every additional step in town is too much, we all agree on that.
